Gränna, more than just candy canes

Gränna is a picturesque town located on the eastern shore of Lake Vättern, best known for its candy canes. However, Gränna offers much more than just these sweets. Here, you will find a rich history, beautiful nature, and exciting activities that make the town a perfect destination for tourists.

The town was founded by Count Per Brahe the Younger in 1652 and is filled with charming wooden houses and cobblestone streets that remind visitors of its historical heritage. A visit to the Grenna Museum provides a fascinating insight into the town’s history and the famous polar explorer Andrée.

For nature lovers, Gränna offers fantastic hiking trails and scenic views over Lake Vättern. Take a trip up to Grännaberget for a spectacular view of the lake and surroundings. There are also cycling and hiking trails that wind through the beautiful nature of Småland.

A short boat trip from Gränna takes you to Visingsö, a historical island with castles, ruins, and beautiful landscapes. Here, you can cycle, ride horses, or take a tour with the famous Remmalagen, horse-drawn carriages that provide a nostalgic journey through time.

Gränna is also home to several cozy cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy local delicacies and, of course, buy real candy canes from the town’s many candy cane bakers. Visitors can watch how these colorful sweets are made by hand and even try baking their own candy canes.
